LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel Corp. posted an 12 percent increase in wireless revenues for the third quarter rising from $973.5 million last year to $1.1 billion this year, with a $7 million drop in product sales was more than offset by a $125 million increase in service revenues. Operating income increased 20 percent from $214 million to $256.9 million over the same time period.
Total customer additions during the third quarter were 715,518 and included 761,723 the company added from its acquisition of CenturyTel Inc.’s wireless properties, 67,648 net internal additions and the loss of 113,853 prepaid customers. Alltel reported 124,273 internal net customer additions for the third quarter of 2001.
Average revenue per user increased from $47.36 last year to $47.84 this year, while customer churn fell from 2.42 percent to 2.18 percent.
