CPS offers details of new E-OTD tests

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom-Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd. said it filed a report with the Federal Communications Commission with details of new tests of enhanced observed time difference mobile location technology.

Results of the field trials CPS reported to the FCC showed accuracy levels of 46 meters 67 percent of the time and 92 meters 95 percent of the time. Those levels fall within the FCC’s October 2003 accuracy standards, said CPS.

The trial involved a citywide deployment in an area including urban, suburban and rural environments, said the company. Further trials are planned with the E-OTD Industry Forum of global equipment vendors.

CPS also noted T-Mobile USA, which uses E-OTD technology in its networks, along with its network equipment vendor partners has highlighted new initiatives aimed at improving location accuracy and has announced plans to speed E-OTD deployment with new network upgrades and equipment rollouts.
