JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Gambian mobile network operator Africell has announced the company has entered into roaming partnership deals with four major mobile operators in the world-Vodafone U.K., Vodacom South Africa, Hutchinson Telecom Hong Kong and Emtel Mauritius.
The roaming agreements were established after an initial test phase with commercial service launched at the end of October. The deal brings Africell’s number of roaming partners to 12 and will offer a wider coverage for subscribers.
Mustapha Houri, managing director of Africell, said agreements were a major achievement for the network, and the increased accessibility would offer new revenue streams in new markets.
These roaming agreements are expected to boost the network’s traffic and create an efficient channel of communication for visitors to and from Gambia.
Jeggan Grey-Johnson, marketing manager at Africell, said: “This will not only boost our service delivery but also give a new edge to our product differentiation in our market implementation strategies.”
Grey-Johnson added that additional agreements would be entered into with other operators in the near future.
