Igel relinquishes TeliaSonera appointment

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Anders Igel, chief executive officer of Telia, has agreed to relinquish his appointment to the board of the combined TeliaSonera, putting to rest complaints from the Finnish government that the appointment breached an agreement between the Finnish and Swedish governments regarding the merger of Telia and Sonera.

“The merger between Telia and Sonera is important for the future of both companies,” said Igel. “To facilitate a continued smooth merger process and create a peaceful working environment, I have decided to relinquish my seat on the board of the combined TeliaSonera.”

The move satisfied the Finnish government, which released a statement that said: “The balance has been agreed in the shareholders’ agreement between the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden. Thus, there is no obstacle for the Republic of Finland to exchange its Sonera shares into Telia shares in Telia’s exchange offer. The Republic of Finland intends to tender its shares on Nov. 8.”
