MANILA, The Philippines—Ayala-owned Globe Telecom has entered an agreement with Norwegian supplier Colibria for the development of a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) messaging application that allows subscribers to send and receive messages from short message service (SMS), e-mail and an internal messaging system.
Recently launched as Globe XTM—XTM stands for eXtra-long Text and e-Mail—the service has been made available to subscribers of Globe Handyphone, Globe’s cellular phone service.
Globe XTM allows GPRS users to send and receive long text messages with other Globe users and subscribers of other operators’ services. These messages can be up to 480 characters in length, and users can attach pictures from a selection of available graphics. Users can also choose Globe XTM nicknames that also become their personalized e-mail addresses.
Colibria developed, customized and installed the system that supports Globe XTM and integrated the solution into Globe’s existing network environment.
