NEW YORK-The Liberty Alliance Project has released for public review on its Web site at www.projectliberty.org a draft of specifications for an open, interoperable standard for federated network identity for the Internet, designed to enable a single sign-on for individual businesses and consumers.
“In a federated view of the world, a person’s online identity, their personal profile, personalized online configurations, buying habits and history and shopping preferences are administered by users, yet securely shared with organizations of their choosing,” the Alliance said.
The Liberty Alliance Project, which has 132 members, was founded by American Express, AOL Time Warner, Bell Canada Enterprises, Citigroup, General Motors Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., MasterCard, Nokia Corp., NTT DoCoMo, Openwave, RSA Security, Sony Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc. and United Airlines. Other members include Cingular Wireless, Cisco Systems Inc., EarthLink, Entrust Systems, Nextel Communications Inc., SAP, VeriSign, SK Telecom and Schlumberger.
