Akerson to leave XO

RESTON, Va.-Daniel Akerson, chairman and chief executive officer of XO Communications Inc., will quit the company following the completion of XO’s financial restructuring. The company will move into the hands of financier Carl Icahn, which will hold a controlling interest in the company after its restructuring, and the company’s president and chief operating officer Nate Davis.

Akerson said he is leaving the company to pursue other interests and spend time with his family.

“I have great respect for what the company has been able to accomplish during the restructuring process and am confident that the XO management team’s intimate knowledge of the company and years of industry experience will be key to the company’s future,” Icahn said.

InfoSpace fires Jain

BELLEVUE, Wash.-InfoSpace Inc., which provides wireless applications and software in addition to its Internet software business, announced it fired Naveen Jain, the company’s former chairman and chief executive officer, and replaced him with InfoSpace board director Jim Voelker.

Voelker will serve as the company’s chairman, CEO and president. He previously served as president and board director of Nextlink Communications Inc., now XO Communications.

Symbol CFO resigns

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y.-Kenneth Jaeggi, the senior vice president and chief financial officer for Symbol Technologies Inc., resigned from the company. William Nuti, the company’s president and chief operating officer, will take over the spot until the company completes its search for a new CFO.

Symbol makes mobile and wireless handheld devices for businesses.
