NEW YORK-Harris Corp. closed out its second quarter, which ended Dec. 31, with a slight decline in net income, a steady state in net income per share and a 16-percent rise in revenues, the company reported Jan. 15.
Compared with the same quarter a year ago, net income dropped to $16.3 million from $16.4 million, while net income per share held steady at 25 cents. Revenues rose to $523.9 million from $451.5 million.
The company reported its strongest growth in government and RF communications, both of which are geared toward military and government applications. In its microwave communications business, which focuses on commercial mobile telecommunications, sales rose by 4 percent to $75.6 million, compared with the second quarter of last fiscal year, but they rose by 35 percent compared with the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
“Strength continued in North America where sales increased as a result of capacity upgrades by cellular and PCS operators and from Harris’ solid position in the private network business,” the company said.
“While capital constraints still remain a concern in the international market, improvement in Harris’ international microwave business was encouraging. Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia all showed relative strength.”
