T-Mobile U.S.A. exec resigns

WASHINGTON-Brian O’Connor, vice president for legislative and regulatory affairs at T-Mobile U.S.A., has resigned to pursue opportunities elsewhere in the private sector.

O’Connor said his departure from T-Mobile, effective Jan. 2, was amicable and had been planned for some time. He said it is doubtful T-Mobile will replace him. Instead, O’Connor said his duties likely will be shared by officials in the government relations office here and at T-Mobile headquarters in Bellevue, Wash.

O’Connor was a top executive at Aerial Communications Inc. in Chicago before it was acquired by what was then VoiceStream Wireless Corp. in 2000. Germany’s Deutsche Telekom AG subsequently bought VoiceStream. O’Connor, who played a key role in getting the DT-VoiceStream deal approved by federal regulators, told RCR Wireless News he would like serve as general counsel at a telecom firm, but is not necessarily wedded to working in the high-tech industry.
