China Unicom fined for tariff violations

BEIJING-The Beijing Telecommunications Administration has fined China Unicom 300,000 yuan (US$36,245) for tariff violations related to promotional packages offered on the carrier’s GSM network.

China Unicom is allowed to offer a 10-percent discount compared with the prices of competitor China Mobile in a bid to promote competition, but has now been caught offering much larger discounts.
