Microsoft reports higher quarterly revenues

REDMOND, Washington, United States-Microsoft reported revenues of US$8.5 billion for its second quarter, up from the US$7.7 billion it scored in the same quarter last year.

The company also announced its first annual dividend of 16 U.S. cents per share. The company’s stock was down about 3 percent after the news to about US$52 per share.

“Declaring a dividend demonstrates the board’s confidence in the company’s long-term growth opportunities and financial strength,” said John Connors, chief financial officer (CFO) at Microsoft. “We are especially pleased to be able to return profits to our shareholders, while maintaining our significant investment in research and development and satisfying our long-term capital requirements.”

Microsoft reported US$22 million in revenues from its mobile and wireless products division for the quarter ended 31 December, 2002. The division reported the least amount of revenues compared with the company’s other divisions, but managed to increase revenues over the US$17 million the mobile and wireless division scored during the same quarter last year.
