REDMOND, Wash.-Microsoft Corp. reported revenues of $8.5 billion for its second quarter, up from the $7.7 billion it scored in the same quarter last year.
The company also announced its first ever annual dividend of 16 cents per share. The company’s stock was down about 3 percent after the news to about $52 per share.
“Declaring a dividend demonstrates the board’s confidence in the company’s long-term growth opportunities and financial strength,” said John Connors, chief financial officer at Microsoft. “We are especially pleased to be able to return profits to our shareholders, while maintaining our significant investment in research and development and satisfying our long-term capital requirements.”
Microsoft reported $22 million in revenues from its mobile and wireless products division for the quarter ended Dec. 31. The division reported the least amount of revenues compared to the company’s other divisions, but managed to increase revenues over the $17 million the mobile and wireless division scored during the same quarter last year.
