SAN JOSE, Calif.-LG Electronics said it will license the i-BURST personal broadband system, a cheap alternative high-speed wireless service, from ArrayComm Inc.
LG will manufacture and distribute base stations and wireless modems that will be commercially available in the second half of this year.
“We are pleased to be teamed with them [LG] as they bring i-BURST equipment to network operators worldwide,” said Martin Cooper, chairman and chief executive officer of ArrayComm. “Korea’s leadership in broadband deployment makes this relationship with a Korea-based industry leader like LG even more exciting.”
The i-BURST system is slated to be commercially deployed by CKW Wireless, a subsidiary of ArrayComm, in the third quarter of this year. LG expects its wireless modems to be ready.
