WASHINGTON-White House adviser Richard Clarke, according to published reports, will step down next month after completing a final report on a cybersecurity plan that is bound to attract sharp criticism when it is released because of expected heavy reliance on voluntary industry efforts to combat Internet hackers. A draft of the “National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace” was leaked to the news media earlier this month.
Reuters, citing government and industry sources, said Clarke is likely to enter the private sector and that his departure may have been prompted by his displeasure with positions offered him in the new Department of Homeland Security,
The White House said it could not comment immediately on news reports of Clarke’s impending resignation.
