TOKYO-KDDI, the second-largest Japanese mobile operator, said it would launch a new handset with BREW capabilities in February. BREW is a data application download service developed by Qualcomm.
It will let users download software or games on their handsets and customize them according to their preferences. According to KDDI, as a first step, it will launch a new BREW-enabled handset, the A5304T manufactured by Toshiba, at the end of February. It is planning to launch 10 BREW-enabled handsets within a year.
In related news, KDDI said it now has more than 5 million users of its 1x service.
