Verizon tries to stop copyright order

WASHINGTON-Verizon Communications said it will file a motion to stop a court ruling requiring the carrier to reveal the identity of an Internet user accused of pirating music.

“The recording industry brought this case as a test case of its aggressive legal theories,” said John Thorne, senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Verizon. “We are seeking a stay so that the Court of Appeals can issue a final ruling on the critical legal issues before we are required to turn over our subscriber’s identity.

The implications for wireless could be substantial due to the growing use of wireless data and associated copyright issues.
