NEW DELHI, India-Hong Kong-based Hutchsion Telecom plans to buy a license to operate GSM services in Punjab from New Delhi-based Escotel, according to media reports in India and Hong Kong.
Escotel had bagged the Punjab license as the fourth operator, but has decided to sell it and concentrate in the telecom circles where it is already operating services. For Hutch, the addition of Punjab would mean one more step toward becoming a pan-Indian operator.
However, Escotel officials have not divulged the price of the deal.
