TOKYO-J-Phone, a Vodafone Group business unit in Japan, announced it would launch a new prepaid phone service in mid-February. The new prepaid service “enjorno” will charge up to 40-percent lower rates than conventional phone services, and handsets for the service will sell through more distribution channels than current services, including convenience stores.
As the first product, J-Phone will launch the J-D07 phone in mid-February. The retail price for the handset will be 9,800 yen (US$82), including a 3,000 yen (US$25) communications fee. J-Phone is targeting to sell 40,000 prepaid phones per month.
