JAKARTA, Indonesia-Singapore’s StarHub said it would target more corporate customers by offering a broad array of wireless data services this year.
StarHub, which achieved 640,000 subscribers by the end of last year, said it is targeting corporate customers who currently comprise roughly 5 percent of its total subscriber base.
Eric Loh, StarHub’s spokesman, said its data services include General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) services through the recently released BlackBerry, the Java-based wireless device that allows StarHub’s corporate users to manage communications with integrated e-mail, phone, short message service (SMS), Web browser and organizer applications.
He added that currently StarHub counts more than 30,000 GPRS users. Meanwhile, StarHub rival SingTel revealed it achieved more than 100,000 GPRS subscribers.
A SingTel spokeswoman said early takeup for GPRS has been affected by the late arrival of GPRS-enabled phones and the limited speeds of the network.
Moreover, for BlackBerry services, which operate on StarHub’s GPRS network, the carrier plans to release the pricing plans after a corporate trial in March and April this year.
Both operators currently charge per-kilobyte for the GPRS services.
