TOKYO-KDDI, the second-largest mobile operator in Japan, announced it will terminate communications service via Iridium in the second half of February due to complaints lodged by customers. According to KDDI, the firm received many complaints from its mobile customers who declared they were charged unexpected huge telephone fees for international calls they claimed they didn’t make.
All current KDDI mobile-phone terminals are equipped with functionality that lets its users make calls via Iridium. According to KDDI, someone set up a number that lets uninformed users make the international calls via Iridium without recognizing they are making international calls.
