JAKARTA, Indonesia-After launching multimedia messaging services in August last year, Singapore’s MobileOne (M1) asked its subsidiary Wireless Intellect Labs to boost the use of MMS among MobileOne customers by delivering an application called Permodia.
Permodia enables MMS-based access to any standard Web camera connected to the Internet through a PC. Users request pictures from cameras of their choice using short message service and are immediately sent live pictures from these cameras via MMS.
There are currently 10 public cameras connected to the Internet through this application. Their names range from Babycam to Niagarafall. StarHub intends to target the youth market by launching this SMS-MMS service.
Eric LOH, StarHub’s spokesman, said, “As of end last year, 16 percent of our base is from the youth segment.” Moreover, he said that total MMS messages sent numbers slightly less than 100,000 MMS per month. To ensure higher usage of MMS, StarHub has signed MMS roaming agreements in 26 countries.
In total, mobile data services contributed 11 to 12 percent of StarHub’s revenue last year.
