China’s handset makers facing trust crisis?

BEIJING-As China’s domestic handset makers gain market share from their foreign competitors, analysts warn that they should address quality and service issues, following reports from the Chinese Consumers’ Association that Chinese consumer complaints about mobile phones were second only to complaints about the quality of household appliances.

Complaints are likely to increase further, as more subscribers use homemade handsets. Chinese handset makers are expected to have a 40- to 50-percent share of the domestic market by year-end.

China Daily’s Business Weekly drew attention to the issue in a story titled “Trust crisis looms for handset makers”. Most complaints involve poor voice quality, failure to receive incoming calls, sudden shutdowns and screen glitches, the report said.
