WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission set deadlines for private-wireless and public-safety groups to migrate to more spectrally efficient equipment.
Private-wireless licensees have a little less than 10 years, Jan. 1, 2013, to migrate to 12.5-kilohertz equipment. Public safety must make the move by 2018.
The migration is apt to happen sooner, since companies must stop making all 25-kilohertz equipment by Jan. 1. 2008.
In a related action, the FCC sought comment on a possible migration to 6.25-kiloherz equipment.
