MANILA, The Philippines-Mobile operator Globe Telecom introduced this week the Philippines’ first mobile video messaging, allowing subscribers to record, save and play back video clips, up to a maximum of 10 seconds, or about 95 kilobytes in size, and send them to other mobile-phone users or e-mail accounts.
In a statement, Globe said the offering would be initially available to new “G-Plan subscribers,” who would purchase Nokia 7650 handsets at its retail store called “The Hub.”
Originally a camera phone, the Nokia 7650 will be loaded with a video messaging software, which will then allow users to create video clips. Globe said that each “video message” would cost 5 pesos (US$0.10) per message sent.
Recipients of the e-mailed video messages are required to visit the myGlobe Web site and download the Nokia video player application to view the message, Globe stated.
