DUBLIN, Ireland-The latest figures from the Irish telecommunications industry regulator indicate that third operator Meteor is still making little impact on the dominance of Vodafone and MmO2.
During the final three months of last year, Meteor had just 4 percent of the mobile-phone market, compared with 56 percent for Vodafone and MmO2’s 40 percent.
There was some good news from the report, with mobile penetration rising from 77 percent at the end of September 2002 to 79 percent by the end of the year. But Meteor’s modest gains will be a disappointment given it has further extended its network coverage.
The regulator’s report also claimed Irish consumers have been slow to complain about services or pricing, and there is still confusion among many users regarding the best products for their needs.
