TOKYO-T-Engine Project, an industry association consisting of virtually all major Japanese vendors, including NEC, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric, will jointly develop a standardized platform for middleware for third-generation (3G) handsets based on TRON, the project announced 11 March.
According to the group, member companies will jointly develop software for 3G handsets targeting to launch commercial-based handsets based on TRON technology in 2004.
The forum was initially established by 22 vendors in June 2002. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and now it has 90 members. The project is aimed at reducing developing costs for 3G handsets.
