ROME-The European Commission is investigating possible illegal state aid to Italian telecom operator Wind. The probe is reported to be at a preliminary stage.
In addition to providing a fixed-line business, Wind is the third-largest mobile operator in Italy.
State-owned utility Enel owns 73 percent of loss-making Wind, and capital increases from Enel to Wind are part of the inquiry, according to international press reports, along with Wind’s exclusive use of Enel’s fiber-optic network
