ATLANTA-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and Cingular Wireless earlier this week announced a joint roaming agreement to improve network quality and encourage expansion of GSM/GPRS coverage in the United States.
According to the agreement, Cingular and AT&T Wireless customers will continue to have access to the companies’ combined GSM/GPRS footprint in the United States for access to voice and data as each company continues GSM/GPRS buildout. The agreement is retroactive to February 1, 2003, and will remain in effect through December 31, 2006.
“The real winners in this deal are the customers of Cingular and AT&T Wireless,” said Stan Sigman, president and chief executive officerO of Cingular. “Their coverage will expand, their phones and all the features will work the same whether the customers are in Cingular or AT&T Wireless territory.
