Tira Wireless uveils JUMP platform
NEW ORLEANS-Tira Wireless, which publishes wireless Java applications for mobile phones, unveiled its Java Universal Mobile Porting (JUMP) platform. The JUMP platform address the J2ME challenge of device variation and lack of compatibility.
“The vision of Java is based on the concept of ‘write once, run anywhere’,” said Tony Davis, founder and chief executive officer of Tira Wireless. “But, widespread device fragmentation-particularly variations in device hardware, Java Virtual Machine implementations, and custom extensions-has created a costly development process where applications are created on a per device basis. Using the JUMP platform, we can overcome this challenge and deliver on the vision of Java for the mobile market.”
Using JUMP, developers create a single version of an application and submit it to tira for processing through theJUMP platform. The application then is used as the reference for new customized versions, which are automatically created for a selection of Java-based mobile phones, said the company. Applicaton developers do not require previous knowledge about individual handsets and will not be required to supply their application source code.
