JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-Nigerian prepaid subscribers are reported to be facing an increased lack of top-up cards for their services. Subscribers have expressed dismay that the vouchers have become so scarce after the recent suspension of prepaid starter pack sales by mobile operator MTN Nigeria.
Businesses that have developed around offering communications services through phone kiosks said the lack of top-up vouchers has meant they have been forced to turn away potential customers.
The only available distribution channel for the vouchers are reported to be through the network’s authorized dealers, which many believe are creating a bottleneck in respect to supply.
Calixthus Okoruwa, MTN Nigeria public relations manager, said it is untrue that the top-up vouchers have become scarce, and the company has no intention of creating a scarcity of the vouchers. However, he advised subscribers to go to authorized dealers for their communications needs.
