PARIS-Alcatel has announced a much-needed third-generation contract win with Austria’s Tele.ring for a turnkey UMTS network. The deployment will begin in May, with the first phase covering mainly Vienna, Graz and Linz-about 25 percent of Austria’s population-through end-2003.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Last June, Alcatel said it would provide maintenance and service to Tele.ring under a three-year $37.8 million contract. The contract covered all network elements, including non-Alcatel supplied infrastructure.
