WASHINGTON-House Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin (R-La.) today said federal agencies and the private sector-including the telecom and high-tech sectors-must to do more to protect their facilities from future attacks.
Tauzin’s remarks accompanied the release of a new General Accounting Office on the nation’s critical infrastructure. The Louisiana lawmaker said some government departments have yet to fully identify their core assets and vulnerabilities. Tauzin called the situation unacceptable.
GAO, according to Tauzin, found progress mixed in efforts by telecom, information technology, energy and drinking water industries to safeguard networks and industrial plants.
