OYSTER BAY, N.Y.-The wireless LAN industry will continue to grow, particularly as larger technology and telecommunications companies enter the space bringing money and customers with them, according to research firm Allied Business Intelligence.
WLAN is poised to grow in markets including residential homes, small to medium-sized offices, enterprises, academic campuses, transportation facilities, health care sites, industrial centers and local neighborhood eateries, according to Edward Rerisi, ABI’s director of research.
According to ABI’s new report, demand for Wi-Fi chipsets is also up, with 23 million to 25 million units expected to be shipped this year, up from 7.9 million in 2001. ABI further forecasts that by 2007 Wi-Fi chipset shipments will reach 147.5 million with revenues of $1.13 billion.
