BEIJING-A cell-phone recall system might be written in the long-awaited Telecommunications Law as user complaints about defects in their handsets are increasing.
According to the Chinese Consumers’ Association, most complaints involved failure to receive incoming calls, poor voice quality, sudden shutdowns and screen glitches, China Daily’s Business Weekly reported
A test center would be set up to evaluate consumer complaints. Manufacturers of defective handsets would be forced to recall them. According to Business Weekly, only Matsushita has so far recalled flawed handsets, which had software that referred to Taiwan as an independent country. China’s government considers Taiwan to be a Chinese province.
Fierce competition for market share is having a negative impact on handset quality.
