China Unicom offers prepaid CDMA cards

BEIJING-Wireless carrier China Unicom started offering prepaid CDMA cards in six provinces and the municipality of Chongqing 10 April. Use of the cards turns out to be significantly cheaper than regular CDMA service, with discounts ranging between 20 percent and 50 percent.

The cards will be offered on a trial basis in the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Hunan, Jiangxi and Shanxi and in the municipality of Chongqing.

China Unicom hopes the issue of prepaid cards will help it achieve its target of adding 11.4 million new users to its CDMA network.
