LONDON-The downloadable application market could generate a staggering $7 billion worldwide by 2008, according to wireless research and consulting company Strategy Analytics.
The firm said wireless operators need to leverage their billing assets in order to develop both retail and wholesale download strategies. The firm said Java and BREW download technologies represent the greatest potential for growth.
The firm’s numbers compare favorably to numbers from other research firms. The Zelos Group predicts the market for downloadable wireless games in the United States will grow from about $40 million this year to more than $380 million in 2007, totaling 27 million players. Analysys predicts $3 billion for Western Europe in 2005, and IDC forecasts 71 million gamers in the U.S. market in 2007.
