REDMOND, Wash.-Microsoft Corp. reported revenues ahead of analyst expectations, scoring $7.8 billion for the quarter ended March 31, and saw increased sales in its mobile and wireless division.
Microsoft reported revenues of $38 million in its mobile and wireless division, up from the $21 million the company reported in the same quarter last year. Microsoft’s CE/Mobility division covers sales of its Smartphone and Pocket PC operating systems as well as its Windows CE platform.
Microsoft’s operating income for the third quarter grew 13 percent to $3.7 billion, up from its $3.3 billion in the prior year. The company’s net income was $2.8 billion, up from the $2.7 billion in the previous year.
“We reported another quarter of strong revenue and operating income results in a very tough environment,” said John Connors, Microsoft’s chief financial officer.
The company’s stock was up slightly after the news to about $25 per share.
Microsoft said it does not see any firm improvement in technology spending in the coming quarters.
