DUBLIN, Ireland—Reports from Finland suggest that mobile operator TeliaSonera, which this week has signed a number of interconnect agreements for multimedia messaging services (MMS) and announced plans to launch third-generation (3G) services early next year, is to sell its Finnish operation.
The company is expected to announce within days that Telia Mobile Finland will be sold to local rival DNA, which would acquire in the region of a quarter of a million new customers as a result of such a deal.
DNA, which is owned by the Finnet Group, and TeliaSonera have refused to confirm that discussions have taken place this week with a view to making a formal announcement.
A number of other companies were earlier this year reported to be interested in Telia’s Finnish business.
