WATERTOWN, Mass.-The wireless data industry continues to expand, with several content companies announcing new strategies and applications.
One of the most interesting comes from Mobile-Mind Inc. and Xap Corp., which announced a mobile phone application designed to help students study for the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The application includes vocabulary words and flash cards, and works over Qualcomm Inc.’s BREW application download service.
The companies said they plan to develop additional educational applications.
Separately, game design company First Star Software Inc. said it will partner with wireless content company Airborne Entertainment to develop a wireless version of the popular Boulder Dash game. Airborne said it would build Java and BREW versions of the game.
Finally, wireless application company Telecom Ventures L.L.C. said it developed an AlertAmericaOnline application based on news information from the Associated Press. The application was developed for local citizens’ readiness groups, government agencies, volunteer fire departments and not-for-profits to organize contingency plans and coordinate relief efforts using mobile phones.
