WASHINGTON-The wireless-telecom industry slump has hit its trade association.
The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association confirmed on Thursday that it is laying off 9 percent of its staff effective May 31 although the impacted staff members were notified in late March.
Sources said the cuts encompass seven people in areas such as public relations, meetings and conventions, and lobbying.
“Given the current economic conditions, CTIA has had to make the same tough, budget-driven decisions as many wireless companies in order to economize resources, maintain quality services and, in CTIA’s case, not raise membership dues,” said Travis Larson, a spokesman for CTIA.
