India’s Mobilefirst alliance to have common tariff

NEW DELHI, India-The Mobilefirst alliance, formed by Indian GSM players BPL Mobile, Escotel, RPG cellular and Spice Telecom, announced two common tariff plans and a long distance airtime (LDA) package for its customers.

Priced at 50 rupees (US$1.06), the LDA will give subscribers 150 minutes of subscriber trunk dialing (STD) calls, also known as direct long-distance dialing, and unlimited incremental service delivery (ISD) calls with only long distance charges. There is no additional airtime charge. The mobilefirst LDA pack has been designed to promote STD and ISD use among the mobilefirst community and is an optional package that will be available across both postpaid and prepaid plans.

The alliance also announced the launch of the International Chat service. Subscribers will be able to chat with people in Southeast Asian countries.

The four operators together have a subscriber base of more than 3 million spread across 700 towns in the country.
