SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Wireless e-mail company Good Technology Inc. scored a strategic partnership with computer giant Dell Computer Corp., but neither company is releasing details of the deal.
The companies plan to make a formal announcement and provide details of the partnership Tuesday. Good promised that the deal was the first of many upcoming partnerships.
The Good/Dell alliance is interesting because Dell currently resells devices from Research In Motion Ltd.-the avowed rival of Good. RIM and Good are embroiled in a patent and trademark battle. Good and Dell wouldn’t discuss the details of their new partnership, including whether it would be a reselling agreement.
Both RIM and Good sell devices and services for business users to wirelessly connect to corporate e-mail. But with Good’s new partner, it seems the company is taking a different selling strategy from RIM.
During the past year, RIM has been working furiously to team with major wireless carriers around the world. Under the agreements, RIM teams with the carriers to sell its wireless e-mail services. Good’s partnership with Dell could mark the company’s attempt to sell its services through computer companies instead of wireless carriers.
