Telus sees sales increase despite customer add decrease

VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Canadian telecommunications provider Telus Corp. reported that its Telus Mobility division added 66,700 customers during the first quarter of 2003, which was a 26.3-percent decrease from the 90,500 net subscriber additions the carrier reported for the first quarter of 2002. Telus Mobility ended the first quarter of 2003 with nearly 3.1 million subscribers.

Blended customer churn dropped from 1.9 percent during the first quarter of 2002 to 1.5 percent this year, while average revenue per user increased from $36.64 last year to $38.05 during the first quarter of 2003.

Telus Mobility also noted wireless revenues increased from $22.7 million during the first quarter of 2002 to $28.4 million this year despite a drop in gross customer additions.
