Dell’Oro Group reports 1% growth of 802.11 market

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.-The worldwide 802.11 market grew 1 percent sequentially in the first quarter of 2003, generating $411 million in revenues, according to a new study from Dell’Oro Group.

Analysts believe the emergence of the 802.11g market offset the growth. 802.11g products made up 29 percent of revenues from small office home office infrastructure, including access points and broadband gateways. “We anticipate that the SOHO market will rapidly transition from 802.11b to 802.11g over the course of 2003,” said Greg Collins, director of Dell’Oro Group.

Broadband fixed wireless systems provider Vyyo Inc.’s first-quarter revenues counter Dell’Oro Group’s findings: The company’s revenues were $485,000 for the first quarter, a little more than half of the $875,000 reported for the year-ago quarter. Net loss was in line with last year’s results at $3.3 million or 26 cents per share.
