TOKYO-Japanese operator J-Phone has released what it called the world’s first megapixel mobile handset, the J-SH53 from Sharp. The operator said it will initially be offered in a limited quantity of 300 through four J-Phone-owned shops in Tokyo. Sales will then be expanded nationwide.
The phone’s camera is capable of taking pictures of up to a maximum resolution of 1,144 by 858 pixels and of sending and receiving MPEG-4 format video clips. The phone was designed for J-Phone’s successful picture-phone service, Sha-mail.
