MUNICH, Germany-German vendor Siemens AG said it has signed two contracts, one for EDGE technology.
Siemens announced a deal with Malaysian mobile operator DiGi Telecommunications to supply it with GSM, GPRS and EDGE equipment. The German equipment maker described the deal as the first EDGE order in Asia.
“Siemens is also upgrading DiGi’s GSM/GPRS infrastructure with EDGE technology,” said the vendor.
The German vendor also signed a deal to supply GSM gear to Indian operator Escotel Mobile Communications Ltd.
“With a market share of 14 percent, Siemens Information and Communications Mobile ranks third as a supplier of mobile infrastructure in India,” it said.
Siemens last week announced a strong push into the India market, launching six new handsets into the country and boosting its research and development staff in Bangalore.
Siemens did not disclose the value of the Malaysian contract, but said the Indian order is worth $35.3 million.
