LONDON-Cable & Wireless said it is cutting about 200 employees in its London headquarters as part of its continuing restructuring efforts. New management is making the reductions, which include half of the current headquarters staff, as part of its strategy to get several of the embattled operator’s units back on track.
Last week, reports surfaced that Cable & Wireless plans to shut down or sell its U.S. unit. Cable & Wireless, which once had a monopoly in numerous mobile markets in the Caribbean is also seeing added pressure on its wireless business as more Caribbean countries award licenses to companies that plan or already are competing with the London-based company.
