Motorola deals aim to further mobile applications

AUSTIN, Texas-Motorola Inc. announced two new deals to further the development of applications and content for mobile phones.

First, the company introduced its new i.JV30 Java virtual machine for its Innovative Convergence mobile-phone reference design. The virtual machine will be available for manufacturers that license the Innovative Convergence platform to build their own mobile phones. BenQ, Siemens and others currently license the reference design. Motorola’s i.JV30 supports the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) 2.0, Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.0, Wireless Messaging APIs and the Mobile Media APIs.

Separately, Motorola said it will bundle its i.MXL processor with Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior toolkit for developers, a move the companies said will help free developers from the time-consuming tasks of synchronizing software versions and managing multiple applications and interfaces.
