Telia announces new Swedish data offering

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Telia announced a new mobile data service in Sweden called Telia Go, which offers user-friendly menus and preset mobile phones, including the Nokia 3650 and the Sony Ericsson P800 smart phone. Both phones feature built-in cameras and settings are included, making it easy for subscribers to use mobile data services, Telia said.

Telia rival Vodafone Group plc has seen strong uptake for its Vodafone Live multimedia service, and this offering from Telia looks to be a direct compete with the Vodafone service.

“We want our customers to discover that mobile Internet services are available and functioning today and will be not something that will be introduced with [third generation],” said Indra Asander, head of TeliaSonera Sweden’s Consumer segment.

Telia said about 20 services will be offered in the introductory phase. Users can find their way to restaurants, check available housing listings, locate friends, play games, take and send photos, or read news and e-mail with the service, the Nordic operator said.

Users pay only for the services and data they send and receive, Telia said.
