BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless continued to tout its wireless data services-the carrier said almost 75,000 applications are downloaded per day-numbers that could increase following the carrier’s plan to combine all its data services under the Get It Now brand.
Verizon said it will combine its text messaging, instant messaging, wireless e-mail services and WAP browsing under the Get It Now brand, which formerly covered only the carrier’s BREW-based application download service. Now, all the carrier’s wireless data services will fall under one marketing roof, including Get TXT (previously TXT Messaging), Get IM (previously instant messaging), Get Email, Get Tones, Get Games, Get Going, Get Alerts (previously TXT Alerts), Get Browsing (previously Mobile Web), Get Pix and Get Flix.
“In less than one year since our commercial launch, Get It Now has grown by every measure and Get It Now’s easy-to-use self-provisioned format has contributed significantly to this rapid growth,” said Jim Straight, the carrier’s vice president of wireless data and multimedia services. “Aligning our consumer wireless data services around what customers can do rather than around the technology platform, simplifies and enhances our customers’ experience-and will ultimately contribute to Get It Now’s future growth.”
Verizon also said it has recorded almost 12 million BREW application downloads since the service launched last year. The carrier also said its rate of downloads has increased to 2.3 million downloads in May 2003, up from just less than 1 million a month in the first few months of service.
In other content news, application developer Summus Inc. said it scored a deal with C2 and Intermedia to offer ring tones and wallpaper based on the upcoming “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” movie.
